The city of Santiago de Cali or simply Cali, is one of the oldest cities in Colombia and in the Americas. Its foundation dates from 1536 in the hands of the conqueror Sebastian de Belalcazar just three years after the founding of Cartagena de Indias (1533), two years before the founding of Santa Fe de Bogotá (1538) and 26 years since the founding of the first Hispanic population on the continent.
